医学博士,主任医师,博士生导师,享受国务院特殊津贴专家,第十四届全国政协委员,上海市领军人才、上海市优秀学科带头人,国家卫生计生突出贡献中青年专家,中央统战部“党外知识分子建言献策专家组”成员,上海中青年知识分子联谊会副会长。

兼任交通大学医学院博士生导师,美国范德堡大学医学院、香港中文大学公共卫生学院和上海中医药大学客座教授。

曾担任第十四届上海市人大代表、人大常委会委员,第十三届全国政协委员,首任中国疾病预防控制中心慢性非传染性疾病预防控制中心主任、上海市疾病预防控制中心主任(兼上海市预防医学研究院院长)、上海市卫生健康委副主任等职务。

新冠疫情防控期间担任第一批中国-世界卫生组织新型冠状病毒肺炎防控联合专家考察组成员,上海市新型冠状病毒肺炎防控领导小组专家组成员。
